Frequently Asked Questions

Starting therapy can feel overwhelming, and it’s normal to have questions. This page covers common questions about sessions, payment, insurance, logistics, and what to expect. If you don’t see your question here, feel free to reach out—I’m happy to help!

1. What happens in a typical session?
Sessions are a safe, confidential space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Together, we’ll identify goals, practice coping strategies, and work toward meaningful change.

2. How long are sessions?
Individual sessions are typically 53 minutes. Couples and family sessions may vary, usually around 60–90 minutes.

3. How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions depends on your goals and needs. Some clients benefit from short-term support, while others work on longer-term growth. We’ll discuss a plan together.

4. What can I expect in the first session?
Your first session focuses on getting to know you, understanding your concerns, and setting goals for therapy. You’ll have space to share your story and ask any questions about the process.

5. Do you offer in-person and virtual sessions?
Yes! I offer both in-office and secure virtual sessions to fit your schedule and comfort level. You have the flexibility to utilize both options to fit the ever changing demands of life.

6. Do you offer off-site sessions?
Yes, with planning, I can provide off-site therapy such as walk-and-talk sessions, nature outings, or real-world exposures for clients working on skills in everyday environments.

7. How do I prepare for my first session?
Just bring yourself! If it’s your first visit, it can be helpful to think about your goals, concerns, and what you hope to get out of therapy. Any intake forms will be sent ahead of time, be sure to complete before your session.

8. What ages do you work with?
I work with clients ages 5 and up, including children, teens, and adults.

9. Do you provide LGBTQIA+ affirming care?
Absolutely. I provide inclusive, affirming care for clients of all gender identities, sexual orientations, cultural backgrounds, and family structures.

10. What types of issues do you treat?
I specialize in trauma and eating disorders, and I also work with clients navigating mood disorders, depression, grief, anxiety, and major life transitions.

11. Do you accept insurance?
Yes, I accept Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) and Aetna. I can help verify your coverage and guide you through the process.

12. What if my insurance is out-of-network?
I provide superbills (itemized receipt for healthcare services) for out-of-network clients so you can submit for potential reimbursement. Coverage varies by plan, and I’m happy to help you navigate this process.

13. What if I want to pay privately?
Private pay offers flexibility, privacy, and independence from insurance. I can provide a superbill (itemized receipt for healthcare services) if you’d like to submit for out-of-network reimbursement.

14. Is therapy confidential?
Yes. Everything shared in sessions is confidential, with exceptions required by law (such as safety concerns). I can explain these details during your first session.

15. What do I wear?
Therapy is your time to focus on yourself, so wear whatever makes you feel most comfortable—even pajamas are totally fine! You’re welcome to bring anything that helps you feel at ease during your session: a fuzzy blanket, a snack or full meal, your favorite fidget, or anything else that helps you feel grounded and safe. The most important thing is that you feel relaxed and ready to focus on your growth and well-being.

16. Can I bring my child to an individual session?
If you’d like to bring your child to a session, please reach out beforehand so we can plan appropriately. Depending on the session type and your child’s needs, we can discuss options to ensure everyone’s comfort and focus. My goal is to create a safe, supportive space for you while accommodating your family as needed.

17. What is your late cancellation / no-show policy?
Appointments canceled with less than 24 hours’ notice, or missed sessions, are subject to a fee. This policy helps ensure your time—and others’—is respected, and it allows me to maintain a consistent schedule for all clients. If an emergency arises, please reach out and we’ll discuss accommodations as needed.

18. Do you work with clients in crisis?
If you are in crisis or feel unsafe, please contact 911 or the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. While I provide support for mental health challenges, urgent crises require immediate attention from local emergency services.
